Audra Mcdonald is unique in the breadth of her talent and her versatility as an actor and singer. Audra McDonald who has won the prestigious six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was listed as one of the Times magazine's 100 most influential people. The president Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -- America's highest honour for achievements in this field. As a result of her beautiful tone, and her unrivaled ability to tell dramatic stories She has had success both on Broadway as well as at the opera and for television and film. Alongside her stage job, she is also pursuing many a career in singer and a concert artist. She regularly performs in some of the top venues around the world. McDonald is a native of California, born in Fresno California to a music family, completed the classical vocal training she received in New York's Juilliard School. Following her graduation, she won the very first Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured actress in a Musical for Carousel at the Lincoln Center Theater (1994). In the four following years, she won two more Tony Awards as a featured actress for her roles as a featured actress in Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). Her total of Tony Awards is unprecedented at 3 before the age of 30. In 2004 she was nominated for her fourth Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun together with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her fifth Tony and first for the category of Leading Actress was awarded to her for her portrayal as the titular character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In the year she received her Sixth Tony in the year 2014, her performance in Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill became Broadway's most decorated show. In 2017, she also made the West End London West End debut, and was nominated for an Olivier Award. In addition to setting the record for most awards won by actors in competition, as well as becoming the first actor to be awarded awards in all four acting categories. Her credits in the theatre includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Following the first Emmy award for her role in the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit, written by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to network television in 2003 with the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and featuring Josh Brolin. Early in 2006, she joined WB's The Bedford Diaries. The next year she was a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald's role in HBO movie Lady Day At Emerson Bar & Grill received the actress a fourth Emmy nomination in 2016. She also appeared in 2021 when she was a co-star with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in the film The Bite, a pandemic drama that was co-produced between Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. Having first appeared in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's medical comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised her part (now known as Liz Reddick) as a season-long regular on The Good Fight on Paramount+ getting three Critics Choice Award nominations for her role. The actress also appeared as a guest star in Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
