Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from her family, she was raised up by her mother, godparents, and grandmother. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford became fascinated by acting during her teenaged years, and joined the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she was not a fit. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was able to secure a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford was graduated in 1993, but at the time she already had made her debut on television in the 1991 season in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate also performed regularly in the theatre, eventually joining with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
